Did you know that now-a-days many Home Depot locations carry a wide selection of fresh cut flowers? Better, they are super duper cheap! Even when I purchase a ‘pre-made’ mixed bouquet, I often times grab a few other bunches of individual flowers to beef them up. But I was feeling a light and happy little bouquet for this week, so I grabbed a bouquet of white Hydrangeas, white ‘friendship’ Gladiolus, and baby pink Lisianthus (a very delicate little flower).
I then pull apart all of the the stems so they are easy to work with. Then you just go ahead and start staggering the heights until it suits your needs. Cut the bottoms off to the length that works with the vase. Try to cut the stems at an angle so they can get more water. Remember to put the flowers in tepid water so it encourages the stems to pull more water up to the top so they will last longer.
And there ya go! The three original bunches cost less than $20 total, and made TWO adorable arrangements! Pretty cheap eh?
Often times Trader Joe’s stores have a similar selection of flowers and also at a wonderful price. Generally this is the only place I can find peonies aside from visiting an expensive florist.
