Popular Beginner Crystals

Clear Quartz
One of the most essential crystals in anyone's collection, especially a beginner, a crystal that is adaptable and can be used for almost anything that you ask it to do. As a clear crystal, clear quartz can be programmed to carry your intentions and support you in manifesting whatever it is you may desire to bring into your life. Clear quartz is a masterful crystal that can hold space for your intentions and that which you hope to bring forth.
We are all surrounded by quartz in our everyday lives. Quartz watches have been prized for years for their accuracy and timekeeping ability, while many LCD screens are made with silica, the base element of quartz. This is due in part to the ability of clear quartz to generate electromagnetism and dispel any static or stuck energies, along with increasing our own bio-magnetic fields.

Clear quartz has been prized by cultures around the world as a shamanic and healing tool, from the Greeks to many Native American tribes. Some legends say it was fossilized ice, while others related it more closely to the stars, the Sun, and the Moon.

Given its colorless form, clear quartz can be used to absorb various forms of energy, transmute them, release the energy into new frequencies, and amplify the vibration of other crystals and energies that it is set to work with. This enables it to function as a master, multi-dimensional and integral healer of the mind, body, soul, and spirit. It can easily be attuned to work on the specific aspect or level of healing that is needed by the person wielding it. Clear quartz has a special connection with dissolving karmic connections from past lives and helping to heal on a soul level.

As a clear crystal, clear quartz resonates on a most basic level with the seventh chakra, or crown chakra, although it can also provide support for any of the other chakras, given its mutable nature and the fact that it contains every color within it. The crown chakra is associated strongly with the higher self, the consciousness, and all that is spiritual within us. Therefore, clear quartz can help us align with our spiritual and metaphysical abilities and tune in more closely with all layers of our selves.

In addition to the clear version, quartz can also be found naturally in a variety of colors, including rose, tangerine, smokey, amethyst (the purple variety of quartz), spirit, orange, Herkimer diamond (special double-terminated quartz), and quartz with inclusions such as tourmaline or lithium. Many extremely high vibrational versions of quartz exist, which resonate with spiritual and angelic realms, including Lemurian quartz (connected with the ancient knowledge of the realms of Lemuria) and trigonic quartz (connected with the soul and cosmic beings).

How to use: Place a quartz point on top of your written intentions; meditate with a quartz crystal on your crown chakra; incorporate quartz crystals into crystal grids to amplify the grid’s power; pace a quartz crystal on anything you wish to cleanse and purify; place a quartz cluster in a room to radiate purification and cleansing energy. Shop crystals here.

Tiger’s Eye
A stone of protection, aptly named for the brown-and-bronze banding that can remind us of the striped patterns of tigers moving through the dappled shadows of the jungle. Tiger’s eye was said to be worn by Roman soldiers for protection during a battle and was also used as a talisman against curses and evil wishes. For these reasons, it can help shield us from negative energies and ground us into the vibrational frequencies of the earth. At the same time, the golden hues of the tiger’s eye and its ability to catch the light can also remind us of the sun, bringing this light energy down to earth and enabling us to integrate this into our bodies.
Tiger’s eye is also a stone of power, as it helps us to draw up our power and strength from the roots of the earth. It, therefore, enables us to help gain a greater sense of self-worth and belief in our abilities and to fight against doubts, fears, and anything that may shake our self-confidence. When we need help to fight our battles, tiger’s eye can help us remember and tap into our own strength, courage, talents, and abilities. We can then use that power towards accomplishing our goals and acting from a place of integrity, stability, and positivity. This can also help us to enter into our creativity and believe more in our own capabilities. When we live in a place of empowerment, we can best recognize our own needs as well as those of others and act in a way that is fair, balanced, and just.

As a grounding stone, tiger’s eye can also help us to connect into our bodies and bring down to earth any people who are spaced out, are airy or have their heads in the clouds. It does this by connecting us with the roots of the earth and reminding us of that stability we can feel when we take off our shoes and walk barefoot in the grass.

Tiger’s eye can be associated with the zodiac signs of Leo and Capricorn. Leo the lion for its properties of strength, courage, self-confidence, and self-worth; Capricorn the sea-goat for its properties of determination, earthiness, motivation, and inner power. It is most strongly associated with the Sun, the planet of our core essence in astrology.

In addition, given its banded colors, tiger’s eye has often been seen as balancing the yin and the yang energies within us. In this way, it can help us to recognize both sides of our selves and reconcile these energetic dualities that we hold within. It can help us access both of these energies and remember the importance of balance and harmony in our lives. In this way, it can also help us to heal conflicts, especially when we are not willing to see eye-to-eye with another or with our inner knowing.

As a brown crystal, tiger’s eye is connected with the earth and the first, or root, chakra. This is related to energies of grounding, stabilizing, connecting us with the earth, and connecting us with the basic and essential needs that we require to be fulfilled, nurtured, strong, centered, and capable, able to interact with the world from a place of confidence and stability. Tiger’s eye can also resonate with the third chakra, given its historical associations with eyes and with helping integrate higher and lower energies from the Sun and from the earth.

In addition to the commonly seen brownish tiger’s eye, this stone can also be found in other colors. These include blue (calming), gold (reason), and red (motivation).

How to use: Carry a tiger’s eye in your bag or pocket to help protect you during the day; meditate with tiger’s eye on your root chakra; keep a tiger’s eye in your pocket when you need to believe in yourself or boost your confidence. Shop Tigers Eye here.

Green Aventurine
An excellent stone for abundance, luck, and manifestation, this is a great stone to carry in your purse and help you bring into being the energies that you desire to amplify and connect to more deeply in your life. Historically, green aventurine has been used to bring luck in gambling pursuits. Given these attributes, it is no surprise that this stone is associated with the planet Mercury, the mischievous and ever-changing Hermes, who guided travelers helps smooth communication. In addition, green aventurine resonates with the zodiac sign of Aries, the quick and high-spirited ram, the first sign of the zodiac that leads us into spring and charges forth with courage and passion.
Green aventurine can work its powers of abundance by helping us to recognize possibilities, opportunities, and alternatives; it helps us think more creatively and see how we could change what we are doing or call in a new energy to assist us in bringing forth more of what we desire. When we have established what we actually want, what makes us happy, what resonates with our soul, then we can bring in more of this energy. It also calls in abundance by connecting us with our qualities of leadership, decisiveness, perseverance, enhanced perception, and heightened creativity. Green aventurine can help put us on a new path to success by aiding us in questioning our fears and outdated behavior patterns, looking forward with positivity and expectation, and encouraging us to go outside our comfort zones by providing support and stability to those moments. If you need some encouragement to make your leap of faith, green aventurine will help you to spring forward and not hold yourself back, thereby opening yourself up to the new abundant energies that you wish to call into existence.

Overall, this is a positive stone that acts as an all-around healer, especially of the heart and the spleen and call in harmonizing energies, especially for the mind and the emotions. Green aventurine also can help to absorb electromagnetic smog, protect against environmental pollution, and guard against geopathic stress (earth energies and their effects on human well-being).

The green color of green aventurine resonates with the fourth chakra or heart chakra. It can help open us up to the abundance of self-love and all forms of soul-centered connection. And, if you need a little bit of Lady Luck in the realms of love and the heart, then this crystal might be just the ally for you! It aids in living from a stabilized, soul-centered, emotionally balanced heart. In addition, it helps us to protect our hearts from those who would seek to stir up our emotions or energy vampires who bring negativity. It also can prevent attachment and heal the heart from prior relationships and all forms of heartbreak.

Aventurine can also be found in blue, peach, and red colors, which all have distinct properties given their color waves.

How to use: Place a green aventurine on top of your abundance manifestations; carry green aventurine in your wallet or anywhere you keep the money; combine with pyrite and citrine for increased monetary abundance energies; place a green aventurine on your heart chakra during meditation.
