When we first started Chasin’ Unicorns, we got to meet the awesome Soulfilled Yogi who shared her amazing downloadable book on Moon Phases and Moon Rituals with us. I have been doing New Moon and Full Moon rituals with my girlfriends for a few years now and each phase gets me excited about the possibilities. Adding a moon phase ritual to your life can be very beneficial in a multitude of ways! “The moon is a mysterious and magical being. Astrologically the moon dictates our day to day emotions. From a practical view, we as humans are mostly water, and the moon pulls water (that’s how waves and tides exist.) Thus we can expect that the moons pull has some sort of effect on us. Different moon phases cause us to experience different emotions, and when we use them to work with the moon by creating rituals or habits we can become more aware of how the moon specifically affects us, and how we can work with this instead of against it.” - Soulfilled Yogi.
The Cycles of the Moon:
- New Moon: A new cycle. The energy of new possibilities. Time to set your intentions for what you want to bring into your life.
- Waxing Moon: New growth, continued action, results will come about.
- Full Moon: High tide of power, amplifying and creative. It is a time to release that which no longer serves you, what you no longer need in your life or an aspect of yourself that you have outgrown.
- Waning Moon: Withdrawing, sucking and pulling impact
- Dark Moon: A time to go within. Solitude. A powerful psychic time where revelations from deep within can emerge. It’s important to make space for the unfolding of spirit at this time in preparation for the new cycle and beginning.
First, it's critical that you understand the phases of the moon. Each moon cycle is approximately 27 days long, and each cycle has 8 different moon phases.
The two most popular are:
New Moon: Your journey starts here, this phase is for setting intentions, new beginnings, adventure, and creativity.
Full Moon: The full moon is the energetic peak. The most energy in the Universe exists here. It is the time of abundance and receiving what you have manifested from the previous 2 phases.
New moons are a perfect, universal time for you to get really clear on your intentions and what you what to bring into your life. Remember, you can NOT manifest until you are clear on your intentions. So a new moon ritual is a great way to set aside some time for yourself to write out, visualize, bathe, etc. and get clear on your intentions, dreams, wishes, and desires. You will be surprised at how quickly the universe will give you what you want when you are clear.
Allow yourself to dream really BIG! Get carried away in very descriptive detail how you would like the life of your wildest dreams to look. If you notice the little voice of doubt or certain judgments begin to rise up as you are setting your intentions, remember that they are a very natural part of the manifesting process. You need to understand that you can’t control how you feel when the doubt rises up, but you can choose to reframe it in order to see it as a vital balancing force for the process to be successful. It’s ALL about perspective. Really dive into the core feelings of WHY you want to transform your life and what it would mean to the people and loved ones around you.
After a new moon, you will notice a newfound sense of peace within your heart. Many people start to notice signs of alignment starting to manifest almost instantly.
The crystal "Moonstone," like the beautiful moonstone ring featured above, represents new beginnings and is a great crystal to work with on new moons and full moons, with the intention of bringing in new energy and new opportunities. It also helps with tapping into your feminine energy.
My Personal New Moon Ritual:
I will share with you how I celebrate and welcome a New Moon with my ritual. It is constantly changing but the intention behind the ritual itself stays the same.
I always try to journal, at least 1-2 pages of new intentions - what I want in life, what I want to manifest, I write as if I already have it (ex. I am so grateful for our new offices and a large workspace). Speak or write as if it has already happened and feel the emotions you would feel if it were already here.
The more detailed and descriptive the better; visualize yourself there! Some months I will gather my family of conscious friends and we will sit in a circle with crystals surrounding us to journal together. I have even had my friend lead us in a yoga session before we journal. The power of collective groups with the same intentions and stating intentions out loud is something not to be overlooked. On some new moons, after heavy months, I will write down everything I want to get rid of. All the things, attitudes, people, attachments, mindsets and personal habits or characteristics that are no longer serving my highest good or are causing me pain. I write them all down and sometimes burn the paper with friends under a New Moon. This is to signify to myself and the universe my seriousness in releasing what is no longer serving me and make way for my new intentions.
Also, taking a detoxing bath and/or bathing with crystals is another great thing to add to your ritual right before you are going to go to sleep. We have a variety of crystal bath bombs and bath salts that are made exactly for this purpose. Visualize all of your personal issues, worries, fears, and weight of the month going down the drain as you sit in silence and visualize what it is that you want to bring into this new month.
- Get a special, personalized journal and write out your intentions - what you're thankful for, what you want to bring into your life, what you want to release that is no longer serving you.
- Gather the soul family! Your friends who are self-aware, or those who may be interested. Or Don’t! Do whatever feels comfortable to you.
- Take a detoxing crystal salt bath. Wash away all the unwanted feelings from last month and visualize your desires.
- Sage yourself and your space!
