The Chakra You're Neglecting - and How to Heal It This Month
Share
I want to ask you something, and I want you to actually think about it before you scroll past.
When was the last time you felt completely okay?
Not performing okay. Not "I'm fine" okay. Actually, genuinely, deeply okay - in your body, in your mind, in your heart, in your spirit - all at the same time?
For most of us, the honest answer is: I can't remember.
And here's the thing that nobody tells you. That feeling - that chronic low hum of something being slightly off, something being slightly stuck, something feeling just a little out of reach - it isn't a personality trait. It isn't weakness. It isn't just stress or tiredness or the state of the world.
In a 3,500 year old system of wisdom that has survived every empire, every war, every reinvention of human civilisation - it has a name.
A blocked chakra.
First - What Even Is a Chakra?
Let's start from the beginning, because I know not everyone reading this grew up speaking Sanskrit.
Chakra means "wheel" in Sanskrit, and refers to energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay open and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.
There are seven main chakras, running along your spine from the base all the way to the crown of your head. Each one governs a different area of your physical and emotional life. Each one, when balanced, contributes to a version of you that feels whole. And each one, when blocked, contributes to a version of you that feels... stuck.
The concept of the chakra system has been around for 2,500 years. It came from the Hindu world and evolved with the yogic practice. But its roots go even deeper - the concept of chakras was first mentioned in the Vedas, ancient Hindu texts that date back to approximately 1500 BCE, which describe the chakras as spinning wheels or vortexes of energy aligned along the spine.
This isn't a trend. This isn't New Age wellness marketing. This is one of the oldest maps of the human experience ever created. And it has endured because it works.
So - which one are you neglecting?
The Seven Chakras: A Honest Guide to What Each One Governs
Before we talk about which one needs your attention most, let's walk through all seven. Read each one slowly. Notice where something lands. Notice where something stings.
Root Chakra - Muladhara Located at the base of your spine. Governs your sense of safety, stability, and belonging. If your root chakra is blocked, you may be emotionally needy, have low self-esteem, engage in self-destructive behaviour, and feel fearful. If you have been feeling anxious for no clear reason - waking up uneasy, struggling to feel settled, perpetually waiting for the other shoe to drop - this is likely where you need to begin.
Sacral Chakra - Svadhisthana Located just below your navel. Governs creativity, sensuality, emotion, and pleasure. Any blockage in the sacral chakra area can disrupt the natural flow of energy, impacting our vitality and ability to navigate the ebb and flow of life. Imbalances within the sacral chakra can surface as exaggerated emotional responses, often overshadowing rational thinking. If you have been feeling creatively dry, joyless, disconnected from your body, or unable to feel pleasure in the things that used to delight you - your sacral chakra is calling.
Solar Plexus Chakra - Manipura Located in your stomach area. Governs personal power, confidence, and self-worth. Blockages in the third chakra are often experienced through digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion. It's the chakra of our personal power - related to our self-esteem and self-confidence. If you have been second-guessing yourself constantly, shrinking in rooms, unable to make decisions without spiralling - your solar plexus needs tending.
Heart Chakra - Anahata Located at the centre of your chest. Governs love, compassion, and connection. Blocks in the heart chakra can manifest in physical health through heart problems, asthma, and weight issues. People with heart chakra blocks often prioritise others' needs over their own, to their own detriment. When out of alignment, it can make us feel lonely, insecure, and isolated. If you are reading this and your first thought was "I always put everyone else first" - your heart chakra is blocked. And the irony is not lost on me that the most giving people are often the ones with the most blocked heart chakras.
Throat Chakra - Vishuddha Located at your throat. Governs communication, self-expression, and truth. When the throat chakra is out of alignment, you may have difficulty expressing yourself, worry about the judgement of others, experience thyroid issues, tension headaches, sore throat, and neck and shoulder tightness. If you have been swallowing words, going along with things that don't feel right, struggling to say what you mean - your throat chakra needs your voice.
Third Eye Chakra - Ajna Located between your eyebrows. Governs intuition, clarity, and inner wisdom. Since this chakra is physically located on the head, blockages can manifest as headaches, issues with sight or concentration, and hearing problems. People who have trouble listening to reality or who are not in touch with their intuition may also have a block. If you have been feeling mentally foggy, unable to trust your gut, disconnected from your own knowing - this one needs attention.
Crown Chakra - Sahasrara Located at the very top of your head. Governs your connection to something greater than yourself - the universe, the divine, your highest self. Crown chakra unbalanced means one can be constantly exhausted, cannot make decisions, has no sense of belonging, or can have some depressive symptoms and obsessive thinking. When the crown comes to balance, an individual has a magnetic personality, achieves their goals, and is at peace with themselves.
Which One Did You Feel?
Go back. Read through that list again if you need to.
Because here is what I have learned: most people don't just have one blocked chakra. They have a primary one - the one that has been neglected the longest, the one that has the most to say - and then secondary ones that have been affected by the ripple.
And almost always, the one that is most blocked is the one that has received the least ritual attention.
Not the least medication. Not the least therapy. Not the least productivity hacking or journaling or morning routines.
Ritual attention. The kind that is slow. Intentional. Embodied. The kind that says: I see this part of me. I am going to sit with it. I am going to tend to it the way I tend to a garden - not trying to force it to bloom, but creating the conditions in which blooming becomes possible.
How to Actually Begin Healing - Starting Tonight
Here is the thing about chakra healing that nobody tells you clearly enough: you do not need a retreat in Bali. You do not need a crystal collection that costs more than your rent. You do not need to overhaul your entire life.
You need consistency. You need intention. And you need to choose one chakra to begin with.
A plethora of chakra balancing practices have proliferated around the world including aromatherapy, crystal healing, pranic healing, color therapy, visualization, breathwork and more - all aimed at improving the flow of life force in the seven chakras.
Let me give you something simpler. Something you can do tonight.
If your Root Chakra is calling: Ground your body. Walk barefoot on grass or earth if you can. Take a warm bath - water draws your awareness into your physical body, which is exactly where the root chakra needs you to be. Use warm, earthy scents - lemongrass, vanilla, sandalwood - to anchor you in the present moment. Our Vanilla Lemongrass Body Butter was made for this exact purpose: to bring you back into the body you live in.
If your Sacral Chakra is calling: Reclaim pleasure as a practice. Not a reward. Not a treat you have earned after finishing everything else. A practice. Light a candle and sit with it for five minutes - not to do anything, just to be. Let yourself feel the warmth. Our Rose Coconut Shell Candle carries the energy of Venus - the planet of sensuality, creativity, and joy - and lighting it is an act of sacral chakra healing in itself.
If your Solar Plexus is calling: Do one thing today that is entirely for you, decided entirely by you, without asking anyone else's opinion. Even if it is small. Especially if it is small. Reclaiming your decision-making is how the solar plexus begins to rebuild its fire.
If your Heart Chakra is calling: Apply body oil or body butter to your skin - slowly, with full attention, the way you would tend to someone you loved. Because you are someone you love. Or you are trying to be. The act of touching your own body with gentleness and care is one of the most direct paths to heart chakra healing there is. Our Heart Chakra Body Oil was formulated with jasmine and rose - both ancient heart-opening botanicals - for exactly this reason.
If your Throat Chakra is calling: Say the thing you have been not saying. Out loud. Even if it is just to yourself, alone in the bathroom, with the water running. Your voice needs to hear itself speaking truth. Start there.
If your Third Eye is calling: Turn off one screen an hour before bed for the next seven days. That is it. Let your mind have silence. Let your intuition have space to come forward. She has been trying to speak to you. Give her the room.
If your Crown Chakra is calling: Create a ritual - any ritual - and do it every day for a week. It does not matter what it is. The crown chakra heals through devotion. Through the act of choosing, repeatedly, to show up for something sacred. Your self-care practice is that something. Let it be consistent. Let it be yours.
The Chakra Most Women Are Neglecting Right Now
I want to be honest with you about something I have noticed.
In conversations with our community. In the messages we receive. In the reviews customers leave. In the emails that come in at eleven at night from women who say they found us because they were desperately searching for something that would help them feel like themselves again.
The most neglected chakra - by a significant distance - is the heart chakra.
The heart chakra is the most powerful chakra in our body. Balancing the heart chakra has little to do with our physical relationships and everything to do with the frequency of love we radiate within. It's about learning to love for the sake of love - healing practices of the heart chakra are typically about fulfilling love for ourselves because when we do, that inner love can then be expressed outwards.
We are a generation of women who have been taught that our value is in our output. In what we produce. In what we provide. In how much we give and how graciously we give it. And somewhere in all of that giving, the flow of love inward - toward ourselves - quietly got cut off.
The heart chakra does not block because you are unloving. It blocks because you have been loving outward so fiercely for so long that you forgot to love inward at all.
And the way to heal it is almost embarrassingly simple. It is not a grand gesture. It is not a dramatic life change.
It is choosing yourself. Repeatedly. In small ways. Every day.
It is saying: tonight, this hour is mine. This bath is mine. This candle is mine. This ritual is mine. Not because I have earned it. Not because I have finished everything else first. But because I am a human being, and human beings need to be tended to, and I am one of them.
A Ritual for Whichever Chakra Needs You Most
Here is what I want you to try this week.
Choose your chakra. The one that resonated most when you read through the list. The one that made you pause. The one that made you think: oh. That's the one.
Then create a small, deliberate ritual around it. Light a candle. Draw a bath. Apply your oil or your butter slowly and with attention. Speak an affirmation out loud - even if it feels strange, especially if it feels strange.
Give yourself twenty minutes. Just twenty. And in those twenty minutes, imagine the wheel - that spinning disc of energy at whatever point on your spine corresponds to your chakra - beginning to loosen. Beginning to turn again. Beginning, very gently, to open.
You do not have to believe it fully for it to work. You just have to show up. Consistently. Intentionally. With a little more tenderness for yourself than you showed up with yesterday.
That is chakra healing. That is what it has always been.
Not a product. Not a pill. Not a shortcut.
A practice. A return. A choosing - over and over again - of yourself.
